The Forum on Common Core, hosted November 12th at Ward Melville High School, quickly became a raucous event attended by 1,500 parents, teachers, and administrators. The wide cross-section of speakers all shared that the Common Core Curriculum has been poorly implemented and the excessive amount of testing is having deleterious effects upon the integrity of public education in Long Island's high performing schools. The event was widely covered on NBC, ABC, FOX, News 12, Newsday, and many local papers.
NYSUT MAC has reissued a call for a ban on K-2 non-diagnostic testing. Commissioner King is back-peddling on the issue, saying the SED is now against such practices. Senator Flanagan has openly criticized the implementation and we are seeing greater and greater support from legislators.
